A Time Like No Other

(Written Friday, June 23, 2006)

Today is a day like no other in the history of mankind. There is hopelessness in the heart which compels deep fear for the future and terror lurks on every side of life. From the cradle to the grave, no, from the womb to the grave (which too often are one and the same), a shadow, a pall, darkens the soul, making hearts cry out for relief from the pain and sorrow.

Is this an exaggeration? Is this the way life is meant to be lived? These statements are made by one who has always been an optimist. What on earth has caused these feelings of despair?

Just look back in not too distant history for some answers. Things have always been bad, haven't they? Examples of genocide are frequent in history. Consider the following:

Armenians in Turkey: 1915-1918 1,500,000 http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/index.html
Josef Stalin 1932-1933 20 million http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Stalin#Number_of_repressed
Rape of Nanking: 1937-1938 300,000 http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/index.html
Nazi Holocaust: 1938-1945 11 million people, including six million Jews http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler
Khmer Rouge government of Cambodia 7 million http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_Rouge
Pol Pot in Cambodia: 1975-1979 2 million http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/index.html
Bosnia-Herzegovina: 1992-1995 200,000 http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/index.html

Total in just 80 years 42,800,000

Of course, things like these happened before 1915 also. So the total is not really all encompassing. As you look over these terrible numbers and look at the cultures of the countries involved, even one with little knowledge of history can tell that these cultures have not prospered. If not for The Allies, mostly the United States of America, even Germany would be in a much sadder circumstance. The other nations listed above have either collapsed because of faulty forms of government which led to ineffectiveness and lack of motivation on the part of workers or have just not made real progress after the atrocities listed.

Now, let us consider our beloved United States of America. Sure, we were not fair to Native Americans, and we once had slavery as the law of the land. So, it seems, we have not been entirely pure in our national agendas. But, nothing in our history compares to what is illustrated in the following decisions handed down by the sober judges of our Supreme Court.

The following was copied from a website history of abortion….

1857: On March 6, 1857 the U.S. Supreme Court finally decided a very vexing question which had troubled the citizens of the United States for many years. In the landmark Dred Scott Decision the court ruled once and for all that black people were not legal "persons" according to the U.S. Constitution. A slave was the property of the owner and could be bought and sold, used, or even killed by the owner at the owners discretion. The ruling was final. It was by the highest court in the land.

Those who opposed slavery protested, but were met with the retort: "So you oppose slavery? It is against your moral, religious, and ethical convictions? Well, you don’t have to own a slave, but don’t impose your morality on the slave owner. He has the right to choose to own a slave. The Supreme Court has spoken. Slavery is legal.",but not for long. It took a bloody civil war to stop slavery. It took the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution to legally grant freedom, civil rights, and voting rights. From a socioeconomic view, we are still striving for full equality.

1973: On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court finally decided a very vexing question which had troubled the citizens of the United States for many years. In a landmark Decision, the court ruled once and for all that unborn humans were not legal "persons" according to the U.S. Constitution. An unborn baby was the property of the owner (mother), and she could have the baby killed at her request because of her health (social distress). This could be done at any time until birth. The ruling was final. It was by the highest court in the land.

Those who opposed abortion protested but were met with a retort that seemed an echo of slavery days. "So you oppose abortion? It is against your moral, religious, and ethical convictions? Well, you don’t have to have an abortion, but don’t impose your morality on the mother (the owner). She has the right to choose to have an abortion. The Supreme Court has spoken. Abortion is legal."

The goal of a Constitutional Amendment or reversal by the Court is still ahead. But the pro-life movement continues to grow. It is now the largest grass roots movement in the history of the U.S.A. Then, the discrimination was on the basis of skin color. Now, it is on the basis of age and place of residence (living in the womb).

The result of the Roe vs. Wade decision:
United States of America in just 33 years 40 million unborn souls

And we can be VERY PROUD of the fact that the United States of America has been in the lead in bringing abortion to countries around the world with the following results:
Yearly abortions world wide 46 million

That's incredible isn't it? But what's this got to do with the awful feeling of despair that was presented in the opening paragraphs of this piece? Our beloved country, founded on the Judeo-Christian ethic of freedom and liberty and the rights and dignity of each individual, no matter what his station in life, to pursue that life and liberty as he pleases and worship, or not, as he pleases, has left the ethic of our fathers to wallow in the non-ethic of every godless society listed in the first set of examples above.

We have been fed lies by our wonderful media, and, to our everlasting shame, we have believed the propaganda that the unborn are something less than human beings. This is strangely reminiscent of the media blitz staged by Adolf Hitler to change the hearts and minds of the people of Germany to believe the lie that Jews were likewise non-persons. Do you think it's possible that the other illustrious societies in the first list could have used the same tactics to facilitate the terrible extermination of their fellow human beings? What has happened to them since their bloody past? Could it be that they have been brought down by their own hands?
Who's REALLY to blame for the sad state of our beloved United States? What can be done? Is there no hope?

Now, United States of America, receive this warning:
The blood of millions of the helpless cries to God from the ground. He will not turn away His face forever. His protection will not be available to a people who are murderous. He cannot look at bloody hands and pour blessing on those hands, for He is holy. Know that God's Word was made flesh to dwell among us and prepare The Way back to Him through His blood, and, if His people will humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways and seek His face, He will hear from heaven and will heal their land. If God's People who are called by His Name continue to allow murder BY THEIR OWN LAW, and do not humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways, and do not seek His face, He will not hear from heaven and He will not heal their land.”
